MTM-1 Work Measurement
For Workplace Ergonomics, Planning and Production

General Description
MTM stands for Methods Time Measurement. It is a procedure for improving methods and establishing time standards by recognizing, classifying, and describing the motions used or required to perform a given job task and assigning pre-determined time standards to these motions.
Detailed Description
MTM-1 is a powerful methods engineering and methods correction tool that process engineers can use to evaluate process methods and introduce improvements. Without MTM-1 know-how, process engineers or supervisors cannot perform their function adequately. They can only guess or estimate the changes to be made and lack the power of proper analysis for robust change. This course is designed to train practitioners to apply MTM-1 to develop improved methods, workplace layout, better tools and fixtures to facilitate assembly operations.
Candidates will be trained to a high level of proficiency in developing reliable and accurate time standards. The training also imparts expertise in the application of MTM-1 to improve process & operational management. MTM-1 provides a method of translating work activities into detailed motion sequences. This allows the engineer/analyst to describe specifically the method orientation of the ways the parts are assembled and how the tools should be used to complete the sub-process activity. This detailed analysis of methods often leads to better work methods for time reduction and quality processes. MTM-1 will also provide the time required for each corresponding method employed, thereby providing the necessary information to quantify the steps taken for process changes and to allow cost control to be engineered at every process operation.
